Church & Community Agent

Alexa is from Charlotte, NC. In 2016, she graduated from Appalachian State University with her bachelor’s degree in social work (B.S.W.). She loved the cold weather and snowboarding so much that she remained at Appalachian State to earn her master’s of social work (M.S.W.), which she was awarded in 2017.

While off the slopes, Alexa worked with Appalachian State’s Institutional Review Board (IRB) to study re-entry and recidivism rates in Boone, NC alongside a local church. Eventually, this led to Alexa obtaining her license in clinical social work and providing therapy to those within the juvenile justice system, as well as supporting their families.

She is excited to learn how the capital "C" Church can support our geographically local communities in many ways, and she is thankful to learn more practical solutions with the Ormond Center. Her work is guided by this anonymous quote: "Go to the people; learn from them. Start with what they know; build on what they have. But the best of leaders, when their task is done, the people will remark, 'we have done it ourselves.'”
