Shirlye is from Greensboro, NC. Shirlye, a dedicated advocate for social justice, emerged resilient from a period of incarceration and is now passionately committed to fostering positive change in her community. She chose Duke Divinity School after she was introduced to the T.U.R.N. program during her incarceration, offered by Duke Divinity School.

With over twenty years of experience in accounting and project management, Shirlye brings a wealth of skills to her mission. Her unwavering determination is fueled by a deep commitment to ensuring the liberation of her fellow sisters from “Behind the Fence.”

After graduation from Duke Divinity School, Shirlye hopes to become a chaplain and return to minister to women who remain behind the fence. Shirlye is drawn to the Thriving Communities Fellowship with the Ormond Center for the ability to empower churches and reimagine how ministries can be shaped to enhance thriving within their local communities.
